Napier Theatre has always been an integral part of Napier life. The lovingly restored Muncipal Theatre offers the stage for many an entertaining night. Since Napier's early days, theatre was one of the main forms of entertainment. The Municipal theatre has housed thousands of shows since it was completed in 1938.
Napier's original theatre was destroyed in the 1931 earthquake. The Art Deco Theatre in its current form was rebuilt in 1938 with 993 seats. While the exterior is in the Art Deco style of the era, the theatre has been redeveloped inside with modern theatre facilities, making it a unique entertainment venue.
The theatre houses two parts, the main Theatre with your usual theatre style shows. The adjoining Pan Pac Foyer (with seating of 300) is available for hire and is a popular place for corporate events and functions.
