The Hawkes Bay Museum and Art Gallery is now called the Hawkes Bay MTG. Located on the waterfront promenade the Museum has been totally redeveloped.
Please see our Hawkes Bay MTG page.
About the Old Museum
The Hawkes Bay Museum was first established in 1936. A massive redevelopment plan meant that from 2010 - 2014 the entire complex was redesigned and rebuilt, while still keeping the main elements from the 2 original buildings.
The Museum has a permanent exhibition on the 1931 Napier Earthquake, with documentaries and touchscreen computer displays. The Museum is sometimes referred to as the Napier Museum.
